while i await a few remaining details for today's featured oahu shop, let's take a little detour to the valley isle which is the home base of maui thing. i finally had a chance to pop into the flagship store while strolling through charming downtown wailuku during my springtime holiday, and found myself instantly cheered by the bright interior and racks of wearables rocking an assortment of prints designed by local artists.

the label just celebrated its anniversary so i gathered up a few favorites from the summer collection filled with the small yet timeless thrills of island life, from a simple shave ice design to a graphic cascade of gentle waves, in honor of maui thing reaching the two year mark.

maui thing, the designer collective offering screenprinted "clothing with a conscience", has become a favorite of maui residents since its launch and just marked the one year anniversary of its flagship shop this summer.

happily, the line continues to hatch community-minded missives wrapped in fresh island design that distills local culture, environmental thoughts, and playful branded looks into stylish and reasonably priced wearables for the modern 'ohana.

to honor the annual whale migration to the islands, maui thing designed this happy whale tee (keiki style shown below, m's here) which reminds me of approaching monstro the whale's spooky opening that swallows up riders whole during pinocchio's daring journey at disneyland . . . albeit in a much friendlier package!

in other news, reservations are now available to host your very own maui thing party. it's another twist on the home party made famous by tupperware with the maui designed clothing collective bringing their goods to you along with light pupus for a private showing of their latest styles. and, because maui thing is all about doing good, 10% of sales will be donated to the non-profit organization of your choice.

style with a message has been an evolving trend in recent years and now a collective of graphic artists on the valley isle have come together to establish maui thing. their mission? to create clothing with a conscious via good design and a sweet dose of localism.

the collection celebrates all that's good about life on maui putting a positive spin on protecting both the 'aina and the spirit of kama'aina. the eco conscious designs are screen printed on a mix of jersey styles (organic when possible) with an ever evolving selection for men and women.

little ones will adore the graphic punch of the keiki line (sizes available from infant to big kids) which features bold images of island wildlife. even better are the messages that accompany each design to educate both keiki and grownups on how hawaii is the endangered species capital on the planet (did you know there are only 500 nene left in hawaii?).
