go with the flow

we have a last minute visitor tomorrow so i am in a tizzy tidying up our nest to make everything pretty as can be when our landlord's appraiser walks through our door. while i slip on my best martha stewart impression, enjoy a peek of a fun print designed by california illustrator mark giglio who took inspiration from architect craig steely's lava flow 2 house built on the big island.

the print is one from an artist series to commemorate dwell's tenth anniversary.

limited edition. 100 available. price tag $125. find them in the dwell shop while they last!

joie studio x shop toast

honey bunny

tina from joie studio recently sent along peeks of her recent collaboration with shop toast! the charming honey bunny first popped up at uniquela's xmas fair as a springtime preview, but just took up residence in the online shop a few weeks ago. we first met another shop toast creation splashed across their cheerful gift crates earlier in the year, and now the letterpressed emoticons double as sweetly designed shorthand to note your happy news or apologies if you have done someone wrong.

joie's antique presses, a golding pearl & vandercook, have been in constant production over the summer with many of the new designs requiring multiple passes through the machinery to print the two to four color illustrations. in addition to the shop toast cards, hawaiian style greetings inspired by tina's island home have arrived online along with a cheeky robot design destined to be pinned on the cubicle wall of your favorite geek.

you can scoop up all of the featured designs in joie studio's etsy shop, and the shop toast note cards should be ready for your purchase at the kaimuki storefront this week.

also, cali readers up and down the coast have a few chances to meet tina over the next two weekends. (hint: word is a toast surprise is in the works for sf.):

and the winner is . . .

maire of kuli'ou'ou who will be scooping up a charming pop in a box gift set compliments of shop toast! my apologies for the delay in posting the lucky winner . . . my email service went down on friday and the weekend was a whirlwind split between my cousin's happy wedding day and jetting back to the mainland.

anyhoo, you still have a few days to scoop up the pop in a box during its $20 introductory offer (ending tomorrow - tue, aug 31st). btw, if you love to bake up yummy delights for gifting, be sure to take a peek at toast's new diy press/repeat baker's box complete with baker's twine, boxes, perishable stickers, plus a custom stamp to to put the finishing touch on your sweet offerings. $65 buys you enough to do up 24 treat boxes with additional box orders available.

the baker's edition can be ordered online and shipped to your mailbox or picked up at toast's kaimuki storefront.

congratulations maire!

[many mahalos jeremy & michelle!]

shop toast pop-in-a-box

my mister's hiatus has begun, the trader joe's omiyage is packed, and we are about to make our way home to celebrate my cousin's wedding. before i sign off, the shop toast 'ohana recently shared the news that a new mini pop gift set has arrived on the shelves of their kaimuki storefront. each pop in a box comes with five petite bottles which can be filled in-store with local-style yummies. add a little sticker, tie on a coordinating ribbon, and you can be out the door in a snap with a sweet and savory surprise made for gifting.

you can scoop one up for just $20 through the end of the month *or* if you are lucky to live on oahu jeremy and michelle are hosting another of toast's fabulous giveaways!

remember you must call oahu home since the pop in a box is for local pickup only. follow the fine print posted below and good luck!

  • click here to send your name *and* current hometown by thu, aug 26th
  • please put toast pop in a box giveaway in the subject
  • one entry per person/household
  • oahu readers only, please

the plan is to announce the winner on friday* . . . unless island time tinkers with my schedule. sending wishes your way for a happy and delightful week.

boutique week: bungalow 9

modern island banners

boutique week is island hopping over to kaua'i today! good design shops are small in number even on oahu so you can imagine my absolute delight upon recently finding an introduction from bungalow 9 proprietor lisa leggett in my inbox. the poipu shop will be celebrating its one year anniversary in two weeks time, and the little emporium has become a favorite of local and faraway design fans for its mix of modern home goods and edited selection of stylish m's and w's wearables.

one of my happiest discoveries are these simple banners with an island spin on the vintage subway scrolls that have been popping up in decorated spaces lately. the typeface has been modernized with a sans serif font and are offered in a kaua'i edition printed on heavyweight canvas in a handful of colorways (orange, aqua and b&w).

the banners are exclusive to bungalow 9 and lisa also tipped me off that custom prints can be made allowing you to display the neighborhoods and island spots that are always in your heart (definitely on my wish list for our home). another idea that i am quite smitten with is listing all the places you have called home as a record of your life's journey so far.

the most delightful galvanized birdie!

if you are sharing my swoon for the island banners, just know that they are priced at $385 and can be ordered via email or phone if you are off-island.

in addition to modern furnishings from italy, bungalow 9 stocks designs from chilewich, thomas paul, lovely linens and tableware plus echo, three dots, hobo bags and sparkle from h|h friends nina kuna designs and misa jewelry. design services and special orders are also offered if you are searching for design perfection.

coming up: linen pillow editions of the garden island inspired banners!

p.s. lisa also keeps a shop blog filled with design inspirations and shop updates.
