dan weaver fall 2008

word is that dan weaver, one of hawaii's most watched up & coming indie designers, is putting the finishing touches on his fall 08 collection which will make its official debut next friday.

dan graduated from the uh fashion program and, project runway fans take note, his design chops got him all the way to the third round of last season's audition process. and, while he may not have made it to the big show yet, he did score face time with the impeccable tim gunn.

here's the 411 on the collection:

"the fall o8 collection borrows buffalo plaid and classic americana construction concepts while creating original pieces/looks that place emphasis on classic natural waste [sic] line silhouettes. also timeless styles / concepts / applications are given new life, from the cuffs to the collars. as always extensive detail is paid to color and my love for small color changes in fabric juxtaposition."

sig zane summer 2008

2008 has been declared the international year of the reef and one way you can do your part to help save hawaii's coral reefs is to scoop up sig zane's limited edition kai palaoa design. the ancient hawaiian art form of 'ohe kapala (traditional bamboo stamps used to create tapa) inspired the bold pattern which celebrates both the creation of the reefs and the way of life the reefs sustain for all the creatures who call the ocean home (or consider the waves their home away from home).

calling all style fans - the hawaii fashion incubator (hifi) is now open for membership to fashion insiders (designers/shopkeepers/buyers) and enthusiasts (h|h readers!). in addition to the warm fuzzy feeling of doing your part to help hawaii designers get noticed around the islands and beyond, hifi members score a number of exclusive perks including invites to trunk shows, designer discounts, and 30% off the official 2008 hifi tee designed by kealopiko (shown above).

the style consortium recently attained non-profit status and has been busy planning lots of goodies for industry professionals who will have access to online forums, classes & workshops, and a job/internship board. a hifi mentors program is also in the works to help nurture up & coming talent homegrown in hawaii, and hifi hopes to eventually establish a resource center for the growing fashion community featuring workspace and a showroom for local designers.
