round up your girlfriends and head down to ala moana tomorrow evening for a pink party hosted by design within reach. join local designers kaypee soh of so'mace, callidora jewelry, kealopiko, linda & akemi ueda of paradisus & lauren caldiero of pua jewelry who are joining with dwr for a trunk show to support the kick off of breast cancer awareness month.

a portion of all sales will be donated to the hawaii chapter of the susan g. komen foundation including 100% of the proceeds from the silent auction filled with goodies from coach, chop salon, dwr, paradisus & more. pink drinks and sweets will also be served.

heart to heart

jeremy from toast recently sent along word announcing the latest favor options to be birthed inside their imaginative workshop. these playful wooden heart stumps can be customized with the "carved" initials of the love birds and filled with a sweet surprise (or order up personalized cotton hankies from the toast team). the empty stumps are 100% biodegradable so guests can toss them into the compost pile for a little cradle to cradle action.

and, come december toast will be rolling out a more budget-friendly option to their popular soda snack line. mini pops will still put a smile on the faces of your guests (especially little ones on the birthday party circuit) but the shrunken size promises to keep the sugar rush to a minimum.

dirty laundry

time to get back to all the goodness that got pushed to the backburner while i waited out jury duty. what ended up being a non-event became such a distraction that i completely spaced out and forgot to post about the dirty laundry exhibit that opened at the nu'uanu gallery last weekend.

artists, illustrators & designers from hawaii to the mainland were invited to explore how one person's dirty shirt is another person's form of expression while connecting the dots to how modern day society needs to rethink the way we casually toss away something that is labeled imperfect.

an important conversation when you consider far too many of us scoop up fast fashion deals without considering the consequences of our purchase on the environment and the abysmal working conditions for the people at the factories that churn out so much of the clothes hanging in our collective closets (on that note, china blue is a must watch for every budget fashionista with a conscience).

in its own way, the value of a stain is how it tells the story of your journey so, with a t-shirt as their canvas, each artist used a mix of mediums from red dirt to popsicle juice to create designs ranging from the conceptual to complete serendipity.

it seems only fitting to post a spanking new roundup of obama goodness in anticipation of what will truly be a historic speech tonight (previous editions can be found here and here). did you ever think you would see a presidential candidate from hawaii in your lifetime let alone one who is hapa?
