double identity

vintage starfish

since i am signed up for apartment therapy's fall cure in hopes that a little hand holding will help me tidy up and refresh my home away from home, it seems only appropriate to share the gorgeous new(ish) pillow collection from honolulu designer kaypee soh today.

while swatches were previewed before the collection debuted at the made in hawaii festival, i completely spaced and forgot to feature the completed pillows which continue to reference the islands with tropical charm.

kaypee's use of cheerful turquoise never fails to make me swoon but fans of more traditional hawaiian motifs will want to check out the lovely muted kapa pattern which combines old school design with an elegant modernity. and, makeover artists will welcome the simple genius of the reversible patterns designed so that a quick flip updates your space without any additional fuss.

offline orders are also welcome so click for details on how to get your wish list dispatched to your door.

p.s. isla just posted a peek sharing all the fun during last sunday's shop day hosted by so'mace.

fresh impressions

tropical blossoms

my first peek at mozaic paper's letterpress offerings arrived in my mailbox compliments of lei ann, the lovely kama'aina shopkeeper of seattle's momo. the delightfully cheery note card turned out to be part of the first run collaboration between the in-house graphic designers from honolulu's design logix (co-owned by lei ann's sister carrie) and electric pencil's print house who cranked up a recently acquired letterpress machine for the project.

what began as a holiday surprise gifted to clients soon became a creative lark for the designers when the company decided to produce a series of letterpress stationery for sale. the first two offerings, illustrated by designer lori nuha, feature gorgeous island botanicals that pop off the paper via two color impressions of delicate blossoms like hibiscus, tiare and ohia and tropical ulu, palapawai and red ti leaves.

tropical leaves

happily, the mozaic paper online shop is now open for business and the everyday notes have just arrived at soha in kahala mall.

individual note cards are priced at $4.50 while sets of three to six cards range from $12 to $21.

{mahalo lei ann!}

etsy scout: studio five-0

today's etsy find is handmade in the o.c. by studio five-0 designer anna marie who, after a frustrating search for island home goods with a more modern spin turned up empty, set about designing her own line. an interior design degree from fidm came in handy followed by a move to oahu to study architecture at u.h. where the principles of good design championed by one mentor became especially influential in her work.

it was upon returning to the mainland (with her maui-born hubby) when anna marie realized that affordable modern island decor was practically non-existent. with that discovery, the architect turned designer spent the past two years researching textile design, experimenting with screen printing, and perfecting samples for the launch of studio five-0.

plumeria + torch ginger coasters

while only a handful of designs are currently on offer, the first round from studio five-0 consists of totes and small accessories in addition to lovely reversible coasters ($12/set) printed with water-based inks in a fresh mix of tropical botanicals.

happily, pillows, linens and other home goods plus the introduction of more eco-friendly textiles are also on the drawing board.

until then, click over to studio five-0's etsy shop to take a peek at the debut collection!
