rockabella jewels x valentine's 2009

oh my, it seems like we only just rang in 2009 and in a few blinks will be saying goodbye to the first month of the new year. that means just one thing . . . valentine's day is fast approaching!

for those on the hunt for a pretty surprise, click over to rockabella jewels which is offering gold dipped sunrise shells to woo your lady. beachcombers will be delighted that their own sandy discoveries can be dispatched to rockabella designer kristel bandisch who will transform shells from your private collection into a cherished memento of those grease-y moments in the surf and romantic sunsets shared with your sweetie.

keep in mind there is a two week turnaround so, if you choose to go the send-in-your-own-shell route, feb 7th is the deadline to get your beach find to rockabella's maui studio. even better, that trip to the post office will save you over $100 (price tag of a rockabella original is $200 versus $75 for a custom makeover) which you can spend on additional romancing.

the dish on j.j. dolan's

food always seems to dominate my trips home. while wine is typically nowhere to be found, my fella and i are dined almost 24/7 between meetups with family, friends and reliving our childhoods via a long list of island bites that can only be found in hawaii.

when we hit the very first friday of the new year, we happened to stroll by a newly opened pizza joint overflowing with a cheery crowd. intrigued, my fella and i returned a few days later on the premise of finding a good slice in the islands and happily discovered it at j.j. dolan's.

we opted to split our pie in two (shown above) - the giacomo on one side (this pizza classic topped with sausage, pepperoni, salami & olives was our favorite) and spinach & garlic on the opposite side. the crust is a revelation and i find myself dreaming of its savory crispness all the way across the pacific.

pizzas come in one size only (more than enough for two) with nine different offerings currently on the menu or you can opt to build your own pie for a custom taste. you can also order up a handful of brews on tap from the bar.
