manuheali'i says aloha

kalo knit + spider lily

i'm not one for traditional aloha wear but a friend just turned me on to a cool line called manuheali'i. their clothing is very wearable and quite pretty with the added bonus of more modern cuts on pieces like the kalo boat knit top (shown above).

if you like what you see then hele over to their site (or stop by their shop in kailua or punahou) since manuheali'i is having a sale which means you can save 20% (or more).

{mahalo kym for the tip!}

golden child jewelry

diana + hana

jewelry designer seems to be the job du jour these days but there's a lot to love from golden child, the line created by moanalua grad & now maui-based andrea akeo. handcrafted designs like the diana necklace have an inspired mix of kukui nuts, turquoise & mother of pearl yet are still super wearable.

i had more than a few déjà vu moments of rummaging through my mom's jewelry box circa 1979 (good times!) while checking out the earring collection (hana shown above). lucky for you, the designs from golden child have been updated so they are not only playful but have just enough sophistication to please any modern day island girl.

do the hula tees

what to do when you have a closet full of clothes and still feel fashion challenged? reach for the ever reliable backup outfit - the t-shirt & jeans combo, of course. unfortunately, many of the tees in your closet look like they're from the 80's and not in a trendy, bananarama kind of way (somebody had to tell you).

enter do the hula and their line of retro graphic tees which tap into the pre-glam era of waikiki before the designer boutiques set up shop on kalakaua avenue. and if you really want to do old school right, check out their one of a kind vintage tees which have been freshened up for the 21st century.

oaks hawaii

if your inner bohemian is ready to break out this summer take a look at the latest collection from oaks hawaii. oaks deconstructs castoffs like vintage silk scarves and camisoles and reinvents them into fresh wearable pieces.

the line launched in 2004 and since then artist-turned-designer roberta oaks has gained a loyal following & lots of buzz for her eco-chic creations.

aloha friday

speaking of saving a few dollars, one of my favorite places to shop online is sierra trading posticon. although it's geared towards outdoor enthusiasts, stp is the place to go if you're on the hunt for designer aloha shirts (midcentury tapa printicon from kahala shown above) & women's aloha wear at a sweet price.
